Sharkbanz and Modom have come together to create a shark deterrent leash that uses magnetic technology to repel encounters. After the world watched top 34 surfer, Mick Fanning, have his life almost taken by a Great White during the 2015 J-Bay Pro, the need for this high performance product was apparent.
Unlike most leashes, you’re able to switch out the cord if snapped or damaged, allowing you to change out colors and sizes so you can keep using the device without replacing the whole product. Until now there hasn’t been a product in the surfing market that caters to deterring sharks for high performance surfer’s. Without the use of batteries or an On/Off switch, this product’s effectiveness doesn’t diminish over time if cared for properly.
Sharks are known for having the most sensitive electro-receptors and use it as their primary sense of surroundings. This can also be the cause of sharks mistakenly attacking people. The device is meant to disrupt this by using the Earth’s magnetic field. Most of the sharks that tested well with this technology are the ones that are usually responsible for the short distance attacks.

The last time Mick Fanning was in a WSL final, he had to throw a punch at a shark to get away after it swam up behind him at the J-Bay Open in South Africa.
Today was more like business as usual, as he took the win at the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles on the 8th stop on the WSL world tour.
Fanning took out Brazilian Adriano de Souza, who has lived in Laguna Niguel in recent years. Before the final Adriano was leading the WSL world tour point standings, but after the victory its Mick Fanning who is now world number one.
“I think it’s been a pretty wild year,” Fanning said. “J-Bay is one of those things no one really wants to talk about. For me, this wave and this event are all about performance. To walk away with this trophy is really special.”
Fanning scored waves of 9.77 and 7.67 in the final, and even though de Souza had a 9.0 on his score line, he couldn’t find a second score to take the lead in the final.
“Adriano is such a great competitor and great guy,” Fanning said. “We both threw it out, it was great fun. He never gives up. I respect him a lot.”
The WSL is now headed to France and Portugal , before wrapping up the year in Hawaii.

A lightweight hexagonal core gives these fins the feel of glass-ons. Engineered with a medium flex pattern, stiffer than Blackstix but more flexible than Fiberglass. Flat foiled fins break free sooner, and are better at controlling speed. Often surfers prefer them in fast powerful surf where they do not need to create additional speed. If you have muscle memory from riding glass-ons, flat foiled fins will feel the closest.

After two low scoring semis, it was clear that the Final would to be a different kind of party. Mick Fanning scored first, logging a quick tube for a 5.67 to start.
His next wave topped that: Jordy Smith backed off of a left under priority and allowed the wave, Fanning pulled in high and tight for a technical ride capped with wrapping turns for a 9.00. Smith was quickly combo'd, but answered back with an impressive tube of his own, whacking the lip on the exit for a final flourish. He scored a 7.67, and returned to the patience game. As a lull set in, they sat and waited. Finally in the last three minutes Fanning improved his score, with a 6.50, to secure the event win for the first time in Peniche since 2009. "I am just so stoked. I didn't really think about a win to tell you the truth, it just happened. Jordy surfed amazing, John John surfed amazing, Kai too. Everyone has been ripping this whole Euro leg and I’m just stoked I got to get a result out of it," said Fanning. "It feels so good to get a win, it’s been five years since I won here, so I am very stoked. Going into Hawaii with a title on the line is so stressful, but I guess I will just deal with that when I get there. For now I’ll just enjoy the win here."
The Billabong Pipeline Masters 2014 will crown the ASP World Tour champion between December 8th-20th, on the Oahu's North Shore. Only three surfers remain in contention: Gabriel Medina, Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning.

“It’s the best feeling in the world, I’m just so stoked right now!” John John proclaimed to the stadium as everyone else furiously started number crunching. Because John John’s multiple 9’s and Jadson Andre’s first final in two years aside, no one can stop talking about the World Title Race. When Josh Kerr took out Gabriel Medina in the second quarterfinal match up, everyone knew Kelly was watching. When the six foot Saffa took out the 42-year-old Floridian in the last quarterfinal, everyone knew that Medina was watching.
